Hillel the Elder
Hillel was a Jewish sage, born in Babylonia, who taught in Jerusalem around the turn of the Common Era. His sayings are preserved in the Mishnah and the Talmud, and the school that followed him, the House of Hillel, shaped much of later Jewish law.
