Authors of the Torah
The Torah, the first five books of the Hebrew Bible, is traditionally attributed to Moses. Most modern scholars see it as the work of several writers and editors whose material was brought together over centuries, reaching its final form around the Persian period.
Authorship, dates or origin are uncertain or disputed; read this background with care.
