Zeno of Citium
Zeno of Citium, from Cyprus, founded the Stoic school in Athens around 300 BCE, teaching at the Stoa Poikile, the Painted Porch that gave Stoicism its name. His writings are lost except for fragments; his sayings are known through later authors such as Diogenes Laertius.
