The Great Learning (Daxue)
A short Confucian text on self-cultivation and good government, originally a chapter of the Book of Rites. The Neo-Confucian scholar Zhu Xi made it one of the Four Books in the 12th century; tradition links it to Confucius and his disciple Zengzi.
Little is known for certain here; this background is thin and may be revised.
