Tang of Shang
Tang was the founding king of the Shang dynasty in ancient China, traditionally dated to around 1600 BCE, and is honoured in the Confucian classics as a model ruler. The Great Learning quotes a motto said to have been inscribed on his bathing tub; the inscription is known only through this much later text.
